09 Jun Movers & Shakers: Camille Floyd
Camille Floyd moved back to Genesee County as a way to reset after making a career change. After working in higher education for several years, leading and developing engagement programming for staff, students, and Alumni, her passion for community engagement became a highlighted path of purpose. With the support of friends, family, and fellow community partners, Camille serves as a bridge to the community, facilitating community dialogues and educational programming to spark change.
“Coming back to Genesee County was to regain grounding and get back to the overall love of it all, the love of family, faith, and service,” says Camille. “Flint is a small city, so I am able to give myself the opportunity to focus on self, purpose, and grounding.”
Now, Camille works to curate engagement events and dialogue spaces that inspire innovation, reflection, and collaboration among diverse groups, including entrepreneurs, creatives, emerging civic leaders, and college students. She works both in partnership with stakeholders and on a freelance basis, providing these services to small businesses, nonprofits, and higher education institutions.
As Founder of Fortified Fem Coaching, LLC, she also hosts her own community engagement events, including her previous June 2024 “Creatives from a Small City” panel to honor Juneteenth at Cafe Rhema in downtown Flint, which focused on highlighting the next generation of emerging leaders, business owners, and creatives from the community. Sharing with the audience not just their successes but also the challenges of making a positive impact in the city outside of labor and trade markets, and cultivating spaces of community trust. Supporting Black-owned businesses is a passion of Camille’s, and these are the spaces where you can often find her in her downtime.
“I am visiting bookstores or coffee shops such as COMMA, or a new Black-owned restaurant like Elements in Grand Blanc,” says Camille.
Other than that, when Camille isn’t working to benefit the community, she supports it. She recommends the food at Spectacular Spudz, getting your nails done at Eight Ten Nail Bar, picking up a step class at Levels Studio, and is planning to check out Elle Jae Essentials soon, a Black-owned business in the Flint area.
For Camille, no matter where she ends up, Genesee County will always be a place of purpose with dynamic hidden gems waiting to be discovered.
