Summer of Possibilities: Jennifer & John Windlow

After spending 15 years in Tulsa, Oklahoma, John Windlow was ready for a career change, and his wife, Jennifer, was eager to be closer to her family. As John began his job search, he had his sights set on ROWE Professional Services Company in Flint. When it was time for Jennifer to find a job, her path wasn’t as straightforward.

“When I was in the final stages of interviewing, the folks at ROWE pointed us toward Jazzmin (Scott) and recommended the Make Your Move program,” John explains. “Jennifer had dozens of conversations with Jazzmin and, in that process, was able to network with decision makers, which ultimately helped her find her current job.”

Thanks to that connection, Jennifer secured a position at ELGA Credit Union in Grand Blanc, placing both of them in Genesee County. Though that hadn’t been part of the original plan, they quickly settled into their new community.

“When we decided to move back to Michigan, ROWE was where John wanted to work, and I didn’t have a job lined up,” says Jennifer. “So, we moved to Oakland County as a good middle ground when we didn’t know where I was going to land. It’s a good place for us, and I don’t mind the 30-minute drive to Grand Blanc.”

Since returning to the area, John and Jennifer have made the most of their time in Flint & Genesee. They’re reconnecting with family, exploring all that Michigan has to offer, and planning new adventures both in and around the community.

“We have tickets to a show at The Machine Shop in September,” says Jennifer.

John adds that he’s looking forward to visiting the Flint Farmers’ Market, Flint Local 432, and the Gold Leaf Club.

So far, they’ve enjoyed brunch at The Laundry in Fenton, and both, separately, dined with coworkers at Redwood Steakhouse in Flint and are excited to go back for a date night, and they’ve tested out festival season in Flint & Genesee by attending Flint Alley Fest.

Even the everyday things are leaving a positive impression. Jennifer took her Subaru to Al Serra for an oil change and was impressed by the great service, and John is looking forward to kayaking on the Flint and Shiawassee Rivers.

This summer, and their future, in Flint & Genesee is filled with possibilities – and thanks to Make Your Move, they’re just getting started.
